"Extreme Fly Fishing Colorado Trout"

There's more to fish for than Trout on the Yampa,
as witnessed by the 40"+ Pike caught and released
in June 2005 by Landon Mayer, using a 10 wt fly rod.

A 22" Yampa River Brown Trout, and look at
the incredible coloration of this beauty.

The same fish as on the left, ready to be
released, perhaps to be caught another day.

|
How'd you like to start your fly fishing day off
with a trio of Rainbows like these? Me too.
|
Here's looking at you,
as this Brown heads back to deeper water.

drifted nymph and strike indicator.

It's nearly the end of a fantastic day of fishing,
when this big Rainbow is caught.

Text book netting. Shallow water, out of the current,
and the fish head first into the net.

|
Here Piggy, Piggy. You know this guy has been,
getting his fair share of the food chain.
|
The same fish as the one to the left, and look at
the shoulders. That's why they take you 100' downstream.

Landon Mayer searching new waters on the Yampa,
March 2004, prior to any substantial snow melt
causing high water flow levels.
|
...and then you find the nearly perfect
fishing hole with Rainbow Trout
stacked in it, waiting to be caught.

|
|
An egg pattern attractor, with a midge dropper brings
success, and then it's time to follow the fish as
you fight it downstream until it's ready to net.
|
Note the brilliant colors and large,
pointed, fins of this spectacular wild
Rainbow Trout.
