Strawberry River, Utah  (Select Photo to Enlarge)

July 2005, and the Strawberry River has just opened for

fly fishing. The fertile waters and lush surrounding

vegetation are prime insect producing habitat.

Clear water, lots of hiding areas for the fish,

and soon the Green Drakes are floating in the air like

little down pillows. It's time to get a fly onto the water.

The first fish of the day will never be forgotten.

The line snags on an overhanging twig, retrieving it lifts

the fly 6" above the water, and the Brown jumps and grabs it!

This Brown was caught and released, using a

Green Drake that the fish charged across four feet

of the stream to inhale off of the surface.

Each bend in the river brings new, exciting, water to fish,

and it goes for miles and miles. This trip guided by

Joe Mitchell Four Seasons Fly Fishers   Heber City, Utah

Long productive runs, merge into deeper holes, surrounded

by shallower feeding areas. The fishing never stops.

Fish aren't the only wildlife on the Strawberry.

This young brood was taking a sightseeing trip,

until Mama saw where they were and called them home.

Twenty miles away, and the fishing is still good.

Note the swirl in the water just directly below the

center white rock? That's a Brown Trout!

The suns going down, the fish are still hitting nearly

every fly cast, and it's time to call it a day.

A Great Day.

Here's the fish in the photo above. A nice 20" Brown

that fought so hard it cleared another dozen like sized

fish out of the area up and downstream for 100'.
