Stillwater River, Montana (Select Photo to Enlarge)

Waiting out a Thunder Storm on the lower section of the Stillwater, about 10 miles upstream from the confluence with the Yellowstone River, Columbus MT.

The river structure lends itself to dry fly and nymph fishing, with deep holes, lots of shallow riffles, and pocket water. All are full of fish and nearly all of it is wadeable after runoff.

Grassy banks can be difficult to fish, but hold some very nice trout so it's worth the cost of hiring a drift boat guide like Oldwest Angler's Jim Yeager that knows these waters.

Wild Turkeys are abundant along the river and came right up to me while I was wade fishing as well as this group that watches as the boat drifts by them.

This is a typical sized Brown, taken on a dry stimulator while fishing pocket water at the top of a deeper run.

This Rainbow took a Parachute Hopper and was the size of most taken that day. Larger 'bows here run up to 20".
